HC Deb 20 June 1917 vol 94 c1792
57. Mr. GILBERT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the tender of Curtis and Harvey, Limited, which was accepted by the Board for the German-owned business of the British Incandescent Mantle Company, Limited, was the third highest tender received; whether the highest tender was from a group who had already purchased two German-owned businesses from the Board; whether the second tender was from another group who had also previously purchased a German-owned business from the Board; what was the reason for accepting the third highest tender; and by what amounts did the first and second tenders exceed the amount of the tender which was accepted?

Mr. ROBERTS

The tender of Curtis and Harvey, Limited, was the highest tender received from any firm which appeared to the Board of Trade to possess the necessary technical experience to continue the business with success.
