HC Deb 19 June 1917 vol 94 cc1619-20
86. Mr. FIELD

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland what are the intentions of the Government respecting the pro- posed peat culture, utilisation, and reclamation schemes, especially regarding Edenderry?

Mr. DUKE

As I stated on the 23rd May, an Irish Committee of the Fuel Research Board is about to deal with the question of the use of peat. I am told there is a peat moss litter factory at Edenderry, but I have no information as to any proposals in regard to peat in that district, and such proposals, if made, could not be considered pending the investigation of the Irish Peat Committee.

Mr. GINNELL

Will the Chief Secretary tell us when this investigation will begin?

Mr. DUKE

I am not a member of the Committee, but if the hon. Member puts a question down, I will see what can be said about the matter.
