HC Deb 19 June 1917 vol 94 c1593
83. Mr. DORIS

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland upon what charge Patrick Grady was arrested at his residence, Bundorragha, Leenane, county Galway, on the 7th instant; where and when he was put on trial and with what result; is he aware that Grady was a migratory labourer, whose ordinary residence was Bundorragha, where he was assisting his father as fisherman when arrested; that after a few months' work in Glasgow in 1915 Grady returned to his home, and that he was not at any time liable to compulsory military service; and will steps be taken to have him released forthwith and restored to his parents, who are in need of his services during the fishing season?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Duke)

Patrick Grady was arrested at Bundorragha on the evening of the 6th inst. on a warrant issued from the Sheriff's Court, Glasgow, on the charge of being an absentee under the Military Service Acts. He was conveyed to Glasgow and admitted the charge at the Sheriff's Court on the 8th inst., and elected to join the Enniskillen Fusiliers. I am informed that Grady is a single man, about twenty-four years of age, who became liable for military service by residence in Glasgow in 1915.
