HC Deb 14 June 1917 vol 94 cc1118-9
24. Mr. T. WILSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has received requests from local authorities owning electrical supply undertakings to be more adequately represented on the Committee on Electrical Supply set up by the Board of Trade; and, if so, whether he proposes to comply with the requests?

30. Mr. ARNOLD WARD

asked the Secretary to the Board of Trade whether there, is only one member to represent the interests of municipalities serving on the Committee of eleven members appointed by the Board of Trade to consider and report on the subject of the supply of electric power; and whether, in view of the large commitments of local authorities in electrical undertakings, he will increase their representation on the Committee?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Roberts)

As I informed my hon. Friend the Member for the North-Western Division of Staffordshire on the 11th instant, I have decided to increase the representation on the Committee of local authorities owning electrical undertakings.

Sir W. COLLINS

Can the hon. Gentleman say how many representatives of local authorities he proposes to add?

Mr. ROBERTS

It is proposed to add three additional representatives, and I assume that they will represent local authorities.

Sir J. FLEMING

Will there be a representative from Scotland?

Mr. ROBERTS

I should like notice of that question.

Mr. J. M. HENDERSON

Will the hon. Gentleman consider the necessity of appointing someone on that Committee to represent the electric lighting and power companies and not the tramway companies alone?

Mr. ROBERTS

I will convey that representation to my right hon. Friend.
