HC Deb 14 June 1917 vol 94 c1100
4. Commander BELLAIRS

asked whether there is at the present moment a new mission of Danish commercial magnates in London; and whether he will give an assurance that no undertakings will be entered into which have not the full approval of the American and French Governments?

Lord R. CECIL

Certain delegates representing Danish shipping, commercial, and agricultural interests are now in London. With regard to the second part of the question, I do not think such an assurance is necessary. Any arrangements made with the delegates by His Majesty's Government cannot, of course, bind the French Government or the United States Government unless they expressly assent to them.

Commander BELLAIRS

Is there not a necessity for absolutely united action in regard to the blockade on the part of the Allied Governments, especially in view of the request of the French Government?

Lord R. CECIL

I am not aware that there is any difference of opinion between ourselves and the French Government as to the principles on which the blockade is being carried on.
