HC Deb 13 June 1917 vol 94 c922
20. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will allow soldiers who are in the Army under compulsion and who have been on the sea almost all their lifetime, if they so desire, to be transferred to the Navy; if he will consider the case of Private Timothy Cronin, South Wales Borderers, an Irishman and a sailor, who, although a domiciled Irishman, was compelled to-join the Army; and if he will be allowed to transfer to the Navy or be released?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I have been in correspondence with the hon. Member about this man. The question he now raises is not free from difficulty, but I will let him know the decision come to as-soon as possible.
