HC Deb 13 June 1917 vol 94 cc952-3
37. Mr. HIGHAM

asked the Home Secretary if his attention has been called to the waste of public time and money necessitated by the attendance of witnesses and officers at Sessions and Assizes in cases where the prisoners have admitted the offences before the committing magistrates; and whether he will take such steps as will obviate the attendance of the officers and witnesses on those occasions?

Sir G. CAVE

The suggestion contained in this question is one which has often been considered, and it has much to recommend it, but it would involve legislation which I could not undertake in present circumstances.
