36. Mr. CORYasked the First Commissioner of Works what procedure he proposes to adopt to enable the House to-express its views on the subject of the removal of the grille in front of the Ladies' Gallery; and when such an opportunity will be afforded?
§ The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Sir Alfred Mond)It is proposed to ascertain the views of the House on this question, and probably the most convenient method will be by the introduction of a Supplementary Estimate of the probable cost of such removal. The latter part of the question should be addressed to the Leader of the House.
Mr. FABERConsidering that the War is costing now £7,000,000 a day, is the cost of removing the ladies' grille art appreciable matter?
§ Sir A. MONDThe cost may not be important. It is a question of the best method of giving the House an opportunity of expressing its views.
§ Mr. BILLINGAs an act of grace, could not the right hon. Gentleman arrange that this should take place before we give women votes?
