HC Deb 13 June 1917 vol 94 c923
29. Mr. CROOKS

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether a man who has served as a wheeler in the Army Service Corps at 5s. a day and has contracted a disease through drinking bad water on the Sinai peninsula, which has resulted in his being placed in category C 3, is liable to be transferred to a labour unit with pay at 1s. 2d. a day, or whether, in view of the fact that the man's disability is due to a disease contracted in the Service, he will not suffer a reduction of pay in consequence?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Forster)

The special rate of pay was for service abroad. As the man is no longer fit for service abroad the special rate of pay cannot be continued. If he remains efficient at his trade he will be allowed to go to the Reserve if he wishes.
