§ 47. Mr. W. THORNEasked the Prime Minister whether the attention of the Government has been drawn to the inadequacy of the maximum amount allowed to old age pensioners; if the Government is prepared to supplement the pensions allowance to bring the amount up to the allowance paid to British-born wives of interned aliens; and if he can state the number of resolutions and representations the Government have received from persons and associations asking for more generous treatment of old age pensioners?
§ Mr. BALDWINRepresentations in the sense indicated by the hon. Member have reached the Government from various quarters. I do not think that any useful purpose would be served by having them counted nor can I admit the suggested analogy between old age pensions and the payments to the British-born wives of interned aliens, which are in the nature of separation allowances.
