HC Deb 12 June 1917 vol 94 c762
47. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Prime Minister whether the attention of the Government has been drawn to the inadequacy of the maximum amount allowed to old age pensioners; if the Government is prepared to supplement the pensions allowance to bring the amount up to the allowance paid to British-born wives of interned aliens; and if he can state the number of resolutions and representations the Government have received from persons and associations asking for more generous treatment of old age pensioners?

Mr. BALDWIN

Representations in the sense indicated by the hon. Member have reached the Government from various quarters. I do not think that any useful purpose would be served by having them counted nor can I admit the suggested analogy between old age pensions and the payments to the British-born wives of interned aliens, which are in the nature of separation allowances.
