HC Deb 12 June 1917 vol 94 c750
6. Sir EDWARD GOULDING

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that there are at Rouen four independent British Government repair and engineering establishments under the respective control of the Royal Engineers, the Ordnance, the Army Service Corps, and Assistant Director of Docks; that these men are engaged on practically similar work, but there is no co-ordination; and whether, in the interests of greater expedition and economy, and the advantage of the services concerned, he will consider the desirability of amalgamating and centralising these establishments under single control?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The various establishments alluded to are each fully employed. They are all under the coordinating control of the Quartermaster-General to the Field Marshal Commanding in Chief, and the Department is satisfied that he takes the necessary steps to ensure the avoidance of any overlapping.
