HC Deb 12 June 1917 vol 94 c749
15. Mr. ARNOLD WARD

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he will secure a further consideration of the case of Captain Austin, 12th Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, Remount Depot, Swaythling, whose application for a grant to the Military Service (Civil Liabilities) Department has been rejected, notwithstanding the fact that Captain Austin is unable out of his present pay both to make a sufficient allowance to his family and to meet his expenses while serving at the Remount Depot, and will be obliged to resign his commission unless assistance can be granted to him by the Department above mentioned?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. The case to which the hon. Member refers has been further considered by the Advisory Committee, who have again gone carefully into all the facts. They are unable, however, to regard the case as one of hardship due to military service entitling the applicant to a grant under the civil liabilities scheme.
