HC Deb 07 June 1917 vol 94 c332
74. Mr. O'DONNELL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, seeing that thousands of Irish licensed traders are ruined owing to the recent restrictions and seeing that they are in a totally different category from English licence holders both as to title to premises, capital invested, legal security, and the prospects of other employment if their present business is closed down, immediate steps will be taken to deal justly with those men before themselves and their families are deprived of all prospects of livelihood?

Sir G. CAVE

I cannot add anything to previous statements on this subjects.

Mr. O'DONNELL

When may we expect to hear something definite on this subject?

Mr. BYRNE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that for the last couple of months half the licensed houses in Dublin have had to close down for want of supplies.

Sir G. CAVE

I think questions have been put to me on that subject.

Mr. BYRNE

I had a question on the Paper for to-day which has been taken off and which drew attention to the fact that houses were closed down. What are these people to do for a means of living?
