HC Deb 07 June 1917 vol 94 c313
97. Major NEWMAN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction that exists among the British-born population of the East End of London with regard to the equitable distribution for sale of the food supplies available; and will he ensure that no unfair preference from any quarter is allowed to be shown to the shops and other sources of supply used by the alien population?

Captain BATHURST

I have received a report indicating the existence of the feeling referred to in the first part of the question. I am not aware of any substantial grounds for this feeling, but am making inquiries in the district referred to, and if it appears that there is any unfair preference in the distribution of any supplies now under the control of the Ministry of Food, action will be taken in the matter.
