HC Deb 06 June 1917 vol 94 cc150-1
19. Mr. LYNCH

asked whether, in view of the advisability of making provision for exceptional harvests in 1918 and succeeding years, the provisions of the Land Act of 1909 will be put into force actively, so that the large estates in West Clare may be striped out for tillage?

Sir G. CAVE

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given to his question on the 17th May.

20. Mr. LYNCH

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he can state the present state of the negotiations with respect to the Kilballyowen, West Clare, grass lands; and whether, in view of the number of uneconomic holders who are ready to enter upon these lands, he will urge that the business be expedited?

Sir G. CAVE

These lands are included in the estate of F. V. Westby, county Clare, which is the subject of proceedings before the Estates Commissioners for direct sale to the tenants under the Irish Land Act, 1903. The property has not yet been reached in order of priority, but, when reached, it will be dealt with as rapidly as practicable.
