asked the First Lord of the Admiralty how many members does the reconstituted Board of Admiralty consist; and will he circulate with the OFFICIAL REPORT of the Debates, or by some other means make public, the precise duties of each member of the Board?
§ The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)
The reconstituted Board of Admiralty 144 consists of eleven members besides the Parliamentary and Permanent Secretaries. It includes the additional Civil Lord, who is for the present employed by the Government in connection with other services.
The distribution of Admiralty business will be set forth in a table according to the established procedure. The duties, briefly, of the various members are:
|First Lord||General direction.|
|First Sea Lord||War operations.|
|Deputy Chief of Naval Staff|
|Assistant Chief of Naval Staff|
|Second Sea Lord||Personnel.|
|Third Sea Lord Controller||Matériel (the former, mainly requirements. The latter, production).|
|Fourth Sea Lord||Stores and transport.|
|Fifth Sea Lord||Air Service.|
|Permanent Secretary||Admiralty business.|
§ Dr. MACNAMARA
There is myself in this House, and Lord Lytton has undertaken to represent the Admiralty in another place, as an additional Parliamentary Secretary.
