HC Deb 05 June 1917 vol 94 c21
26. Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

asked the Postmaster-General whether any facilities are provided in the post office, Glasgow, for female sorters sitting while at work; and, if not, how long daily are they required to stand at work?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Illingworth)

Seats are provided at the primary and road sorting frames. The work in the newspaper and parcel sections cannot be performed in a sitting position, and forms are provided at these sections for the use of officers who may want to sit down for a short interval after being on duty for more than two hours at busy periods. At slack periods sitting, however, is general. The arrangement is well understood, and full advantage is, and has always been, taken of it.

Mr. SCOTT

Is the right hon. Gentleman satisfied that the arrangement is suitable?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

From the information that I have obtained.
