HC Deb 13 July 1917 vol 95 cc2282-3
43. Major CHAPPLE

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to the Resolution of the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society, Limited, with regard to sugar and other food supplies and the failure to effectively control prices; and whether he can give some assurance of an early remedy to obvious defects and injustice?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I have been asked to reply. This is one of the matters to which the Food Controller is giving special attention, and for which he hopes to provide an early remedy.

Mr. MILLAR

Are we to take it from the statement of the Food Controller that nothing is to be done in the way of fixing prices until 1st September?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I am sure the hon. Member will see that it is not for me to interpret the statement of the Food Controller in another place.

Mr. A. WILLIAMS

Will the hon. Gentleman represent to the Food Controller that the feeling in the country in regard to this matter is getting worse and worse?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I think my Noble Friend has had that representation made to him.
