HC Deb 04 July 1917 vol 95 c1101
61. Mr. BILLING

asked the Prime Minister if he will state what arrangements, if any, the Government are making to accumulate and store a large reserve of wheat in this country in the course of the coming harvest; and whether there is any probability of the national elevator system of grain storage on the Canadian principle being established in this country alike for borne-grown and for ship-borne wheat and other cereals?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

A reserve of imported wheat is being accumulated throughout the country. The home crop is not suitable for storage on the elevator system as carried on in Canada, but it is proposed to use such elevators as are available for the storage of imported wheat.

Colonel YATE

Is the Government taking any steps to increase the elevators in this country?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I will ask the Food Controller.
