§ 53. Colonel CLAUDE LOWTHERasked the Prime Minister (1) whether the Government will take steps to compel the chamber of commerce labour bureaux and kindred organisations to give priority of employment to men who have fought for their country; (2) whether any systematic scheme has been evolved upon an Imperial basis for providing employment for men who have abandoned their vocation to fight for their country and who may find themselves without employment after the War?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWThe problems which will arise immediately after the War are engaging the constant attention of the 1099 Reconstruction Committee which was set up for that purpose, and which carries on its investigations in close touch with the various Departments of State concerned. I may add that opportunities for employment are at present much more numerous than suitable applicants.
§ Mr. BILLINGIs the right hon. Gentleman, aware that there are many men walking about this country now, ex-soldiers, looking for work, and under those circumstances will encouragement be given to the employment of those men?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWI was not aware that men could not get work, and I do not believe that is so.
§ Mr. BILLINGIf I supply him with a list of men who have applied to me personally will he consider it?
