38. Mr. PONSONBYasked the Under secretary of State for War whether the officer recently appointed to the post of assistant to the major-general in charge of the administration of the Eastern Command is over sixty years of age and was 1088 retired twenty-one years ago; and what other qualification he had for this post in addition to that of being the Duke of Westminster's agent?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONThe answer to the first part of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative, except that the officer referred to was re-employed in the present War after nineteen years' retirement. He held the appointment of assistant quartermaster-general in the Southern Command for two years up to last January, and the duties of that appointment fully qualified him for his present post.
