HC Deb 04 July 1917 vol 95 cc1087-8
38. Mr. PONSONBY

asked the Under secretary of State for War whether the officer recently appointed to the post of assistant to the major-general in charge of the administration of the Eastern Command is over sixty years of age and was retired twenty-one years ago; and what other qualification he had for this post in addition to that of being the Duke of Westminster's agent?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The answer to the first part of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative, except that the officer referred to was re-employed in the present War after nineteen years' retirement. He held the appointment of assistant quartermaster-general in the Southern Command for two years up to last January, and the duties of that appointment fully qualified him for his present post.
