§ 43. Mr. ANEURIN WILLIAMSasked the Secretary to the Board of Trade whether he can say what quantity of rice or other food is consumed annually in the manufacture of starch in this country; what quantity of starch is imported annually; and what quantity is exported?
Mr. ROBERTSI have no information as regards the first part of the question. The imports of starch of all kinds (including dextrine and farine or potato flour) amounted to 2,136,000 cwts. in 1913 and 2,378,000 cwts. in 1916. Exports and re-exports amounted to 100,000 cwts. in the former year and 269,000 cwts. in the latter.
