HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 cc1327-8
71. Sir J. AGG-GARDNER

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food if, in view of the increasing scarcity of sugar, he will consider the advisability of restricting the amount employed in the manufacture of lemonade, ginger beer, gingerade, and other similar compounds known as teetotal drinks?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of FOOD CONTROL (Captain Bathurst)

The Food Controller has already considered the advisability of restricting the amount of sugar employed in the manufacture of lemonade, ginger-beer, gingerade, and other similar beverages. Conferences have been held with representatives of the several trades concerned, and it is proposed shortly to-issue a General Order dealing with this matter.

Sir STEPHEN COLLINS

Does this-include alcoholic liquors?

Captain BATHURST

The Food Controller considers that it is no part of his duty to make a discrimination.
