HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 c1312
29. Mr. TREVELYAN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether the recruiting authorities in Glasgow organised a raid on a meeting of the Shop Assistants' Union, held in the Shop Assistants' Hall in Glasgow, on 9th February; and whether it is the intention of the War Office to permit further raids on trade union meetings throughout the country?

34. Mr. DUNDAS WHITE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been directed to a raid made by the military and police authorities on a meeting of employés in the wholesale drapery trade called by the National Amalgamated Union of Shop Assistants, Warehousemen, and Clerks in the rooms of the union in Argyle Street, Glasgow, on the evening of the 9th instant; and if he can say under what authority and for what purpose this course was taken?

Mr. MACPHERSON

Inquiries are being made into the matters raised in these questions, and my hon. Friends will be informed of the result.

Mr. WATT

Is my hon. Friend aware that the meeting was gathered together to assist Mr. Neville Chamberlain in his scheme?

Mr. MACPHERSON

No; I am not aware of that, but full inquiries are being made, and when I hear I will tell my hon. Friend.
