HC Deb 12 February 1917 vol 90 c259
48. Mr. FINNEY

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to a resolution of the quarterly meeting of the Wesleyan churches of the Audley circuit, North-West Staffordshire, urging that, in view of the action taken by the Government in regard to the adoption of measures for the economical use of wheat and sugar, immediate steps be taken to stop the waste of our food resources involved in the continued manufacture of alcoholic liquor, which is placing a demand upon shipping and railway services; and can he indicate the intentions of the Government respecting this matter?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I am informed that the resolution referred to has been received by the Prime Minister, and steps have already been taken largely to reduce the imports for this purpose.
