HC Deb 26 April 1917 vol 92 c2587
7. Mr. O'LEARY

asked the Chief Secretary on what grounds the Local Government Board reject the application of Daniel Lehane, of Rooska West, in the union of Bantry, for an extra pension, having regard to the fact that the local old age pension officer, who has a full knowledge of the details of the circumstances of the applicant, granted him 2s. a week and the local pension committee granted 2s. 6d. a week; and whether he will see that the Local Government Board now grant the pension the applicant is entitled to?

Mr. DUKE

The application was rejected on the ground that claimant's means including the old age pension of 5s. exceeded 12s. 6d. a week. The applicant is a labourer who works for board and lodgings. The Local Government Board have no power to reopen the case.
