HC Deb 26 April 1917 vol 92 cc2563-4
74. Mr. ROWLANDS

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether his attention has been called to the quantity of ice cream which is made; and, as sugar, milk, corn flour, etc., are used in its production, he will consider the advisability of prohibiting the sale of it, so that the ingredients used in its manufacture may be used for food?

Captain BATHURST

I have not been able to ascertain the quantity of ice cream Which is made; but the suggestion made by the hon. Member as to the advisability of prohibiting its sale will be borne in mind.

Mr. ROWLANDS

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that at this time of the year there is a great deal of ice cream about the streets wherever there is a gathering of children, and would not the same materials be better utilised in the form of food?

Captain BATHURST

The matter shall be borne in mind, but it represents a very small quantity of essential food.
