HC Deb 25 April 1917 vol 92 c2401
85. Mr. DONOVAN

asked what canals in England have been taken over by the Government?

Mr. ROBERTS

The names of the independent canals in England which have been taken over by the Government are given in two Orders made under the Defence of the Realm Regulations, of which I am sending the hon. Gentleman a copy. In addition, there are a number of English canals which are owned by railway companies and have come into the possession of the Government with the undertakings of the controlled railway companies to whom they belong.
