HC Deb 19 April 1917 vol 92 c1801
7. Mr. STEWART

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any official information showing that a German marine was arrested under suspicious circumstances on the premises of the electric works of the municipality of Shanghai; that the trial of this marine, who was acquitted, was held in secret in a private German House before the Dutch Consul-General assisted by two German Consular officials; if so, if he will say whether His Majesty's Government are content with this form of procedure; and, if not, whether they propose to take any steps in the matter?

Lord R. CECIL

I have seen in the Press the report referred to by the hon. Member, but I have received no official information with regard to it.

Mr. STEWART

Will the Noble Lord cause inquiries to be made?

Lord R. CECIL

Yes, Sir; certainly.
