HC Deb 19 April 1917 vol 92 c1828
86. Mr. HAZLETON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the Board has yet taken over the control of any Irish canal; and, if not, whether it proposes to do so?

Mr. ROBERTS

One canal in Ireland, the Royal, is the property of a railway company, and possession has been taken of it, together with the rest of the company's undertaking. Possession has not been taken of any other canals in Ireland, and I do not know of any present intention to do so.

Mr. HAZLETON

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether this canal belonging to a railway company is being controlled by the Railway Executive Committee in Ireland?

Mr. ROBERTS

It is taken over as part of the railway undertaking.
