HC Deb 19 April 1917 vol 92 cc1798-9
1. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will inform the House of the purport of any communications that have passed, during the last three months, between the American and British Governments with reference to Ireland?

The MINISTER of BLOCKADE (Lord Robert Cecil)

No, Sir.

53. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Prime Minister whether, after the accession of America, unanimity of objects in the War among the Allies is to be reached by levelling up to the American standard, including equal independence for small nations as for large, and especially for Ireland; if so, why the British Government have not made a public declaration to this effect, especially in Ireland, with the generosity and promptitude of the new Russian Government with reference to Poland; and, if the delay is caused by waiting for the approval of this House, when the draft terms will be submitted for consideration?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I can at present add nothing to the statements already made on this subject.

Mr. GINNELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman answer that part of the question comparing the want of action of this Government with the prompt action of the Russian Government?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I have already given all the answer within my power.

Mr. GINNELL

That is none at all.
