81. Colonel GRIFFITHSasked the Minister of Munitions whether there are a number of officers of the active list who have been incapacitated for foreign service but who are able to render service of a clerical nature; and whether he will, in the interests of economy, make arrangements for the gradual replacement of men of military age in the various branches in the Ministry with officers who are pronounced medically fit for such work?
Mr. PRIMROSEThe Ministry have already been fortunate enough to secure the services of a large number of military officers who have been incapacitated for active military duties, but are fit for office work. A considerable number of civilians of military age are being released to join the Forces, and the Ministry will gladly avail themselves of every opportunity to 547 replace these men, wherever practicable, by invalided officers and men, in preference to any other source of supply.
82. Colonel GRIFFITHSasked the Minister of Munitions if he proposes to take steps to release for military service a considerable number of men of military age now employed at various supply depots, and in particular the No. 2 Main Supply Depot, Northampton?
Mr. PRIMROSEI am informed that No. 2 Main Supply Depot, Northampton, is under the control of the War Office, but I will convey to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War the hon. Member's suggestion regarding it.
