HC Deb 18 October 1916 vol 86 c547
84. Mr. ANDERSON

asked the Minister of Munitions whether workmen in Southampton are being stopped by the police, who demand their authority for wearing badges; that one workman was stopped four times between the floating bridge and the Ordnance Office; and whether, since these badges are issued by his Department, steps will be taken to protect these men from arbitrary interference and annoyance?

Mr. PRIMROSE

In reply to my hon. Friend I would point out that the police have authority to require every man who holds a certificate of exemption to produce his certificate, or to give particulars as to the authority by which the certificate was granted and the ground on which it was granted.
