HC Deb 17 October 1916 vol 86 c355
70. Mr. HODGE

asked what are the terms of service of recruiting officers in respect of salaries or emoluments, apart from pensions or salaries of any other position held; and whether assistance by capable volunteers for the assistance of recruiting officers has been refused 2

Mr. FORSTER

Recruiting officers receive pay and allowances of their rank except that pay is not given at a higher rate than that of major. There are, however, a few cases, which are exceptional, in which an officer is paid at a lower rate than that of the rank he holds because it is considered that the work he is performing does not warrant the pay of his rank being given. As far as I am aware no voluntary offer of assistance to recruiting officers is refused if the voluntary assistance can be advantageously utilised.
