HC Deb 17 October 1916 vol 86 c359
86. Mr. BROOKES

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if steps have now been taken to meet public complaints as to the delay in the decisions of the Civil Liabilities Committee, and also as to the inadequacy of the amounts awarded?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

In the few areas in which there has been any delay, this has been due to the exceptionally large number of applications received, and additional Commissioners have been appointed for those areas, and the arrears in those few areas are being rapidly overtaken. The proportion of complaints received by the Committee from dissatisfied applicants is very small, being less than 5 per cent., and every case in which an applicant is dissatisfied with the decision of the Committee is carefully reviewed.
