HC Deb 17 October 1916 vol 86 cc384-5
51. Mr. MACMASTER

asked the Prime Minister if the resolutions passed at the recent International Conference at Paris have been submitted to the Governments of our Dominions for consideration; and whether it is proposed to set up a Committee composed of representatives of our Dominions and the United Kingdom to devise a plan for putting the resolutions into practical operation at the earliest possible date?

The PRIME MINISTER

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. With regard to the second, I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement I made in this House on 24th July.

Mr. MACMASTER

In view of the vital importance of the subjects to be discussed to the whole Empire, why are there not representatives of the Dominons on the Committee?

The PRIME MINISTER

It is very difficult to get representatives of the Dominions here now. No decisions will be come to without taking them into full consultation.

57. Colonel CROFT

asked the Prime Minister what number of sittings have been held by the Committee now inquiring into the economic questions raised by the Paris resolutions?

The PRIME MINISTER

Five, Sir.

Colonel CROFT

Having regard to the final resolution of the Paris Conference, will the right hon. Gentleman request the Committee to sit more frequently, if possible daily, as this matter is of such great urgency to the whole country and to our Allies?

The PRIME MINISTER

It would be great impertinence on my part to make any such suggestion. I ought, perhaps, to add that the questions involved are very complicated and cannot be properly considered without memoranda from various Departments, which will necessarily require time for their preparation.

64. Mr. EVELYN CECIL

asked the Prime Minister whether His Majesty's Government are in active communication with the Allied Governments with regard to giving effect to the recommendations of the Economic Conference of the Allies in Paris last June, and whether he can announce any recent action which has been taken in the matter?

The PRIME MINISTER

His Majesty's Government are in communication with the French and Russian Governments in regard to the resolutions of the Paris Conference, but I am unable to make any statement on the question at present.
