HC Deb 21 November 1916 vol 87 cc1185-6
26. Mr. JOWETT

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will make inquiries concerning the case of E. W. Bryan, aged eighteen, of 91, Derringham Street, Hull, who has been passed for foreign service, although he has been in a weak physical condition ever since he was born and has been almost continuously under the care of doctors, and whose medical and surgical record shows that he has been operated on four times for appendicitis and peritonitis, and has had pneumonia within the last two years, since when he has been treated in a sanatorium for phthisis; and if he will ascertain for himself whether the British Army will be strengthened if E. W. Bryan is allowed to join the Colours?

Mr. FORSTER

I have made inquiries, and find that Bryan has been placed in Category C 1 and not passed fit for general service, as the question seems to suggest.
