HC Deb 16 November 1916 vol 87 cc981-2
96. Major HUNT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that Messrs. Anton Jurgens, margarine makers, in Holland, in a prospectus issued in June, 1914, declared themselves the holders of all the shares in Jurgens and Prinzen with margarine works in Germany; of A. L. Mohr, of Hamburg, in Germany; of Resitsky and Witt, of Altona, in Germany; of Krog and Ewers, of Altona, in Germany; of Holstein Oelwerke, of Hamburg, in Germany; and of Oelwerke Germania, of Emmerich, in Germany; whether he is aware that this firm of Anton Jurgens, margarine makers, can, through their retailers, sell sugar in this country whilst the British and largest margarine makers in this country, the Maypole Dairy Company, cannot do so; and what he proposes to do in the matter?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. McKenna)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to answer this question. I have no knowledge in regard to the matters referred to in the first part of the question. For the rest, I must refer the hon. Member to my replies to the questions he put to me on 1st November.

Major HUNT

Will the right hon. Gentleman find out about these things? If he does not, what is the use of him?
