HC Deb 16 November 1916 vol 87 cc992-3
93. Mr. BYRNE

asked if an arbitrator has been appointed to deal with the disputes in Dublin between the master bakers and their employés and the Glasnevin Cemeteries Committee and their employés, and with what result; and if either or both sides have agreed to arbitration?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

In the case of the dispute between the master bakers and their employés a conciliator has been appointed to preside at a meeting of the parties. Arrangements for the conference are being made. As regards the gravediggers' dispute, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary to the question put yesterday by the hon. Member for North Dublin County.

Mr. BYRNE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when the conference is likely to take place? Is he aware that the notice of the bakers to cease work expires on Saturday morning?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am afraid I cannot say when the conference will take place. I understand it will be at an early date.

Mr. BYRNE

Will the right hon. Gentleman communicate with Dublin to that effect?
