HC Deb 15 November 1916 vol 87 c786
68. Mr. SHERWELL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether any applications have been made to the Treasury by registrars and high bailiffs for the grant of a war bonus to county court clerks owing to the increased cost of living; and, if so, whether any such applications have been granted?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. McKinnon Wood)

Some applications have been received and the Treasury have given authority to registrars and high bailiffs in certain instances to enable such officers to pay their clerks and bailiffs in receipt of not more than £3 a week an increase of salary in the nature of a war bonus.

Mr. SHERWELL

Do I understand that previous refusals have now been rescinded?

Mr, McKINNON WOOD

I am afraid I do not know of previous refusals. They must have been made some months ago.

Mr. KING

Will those who have been refused before now have an opportunity of bringing their cases up again?
