§ 60. Mr. ANDERSONasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he can state on what principle deductions are made from the pay of soldiers for alleged barracks damage; whether all soldiers are liable to have deductions made, though having no personal responsibility for the damage done; and whether it is proposed to take any action in the matter?
§ Mr. FORSTERIn all cases where a barracks damage can be brought home to any individual person, it would be paid by that person, but in cases where that is not possible, a general charge would be made.
§ Mr. ANDERSONIs it not very unfair that soldiers should be charged for something for which one soldier is liable?
§ Mr. FORSTERWhere it can be brought home to an individual it is charged to the individual, but where it is not it is charged generally.
