HC Deb 31 May 1916 vol 82 cc2727-8
62. Mr. M. BARLOW

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware of general dissatisfaction with our present educational system; and whether he will appoint a small committee to consider the system and the best means of overhauling it by Royal Commission or otherwise?

The PRIME MINISTER

I fear I can add nothing to the statements I have made in the House on this subject.

Mr. KING

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a proposal has been made in influential quarters for a more extended summer holiday for all places of learning and schools, and that meanwhile schoolmasters, inspectors, and the Board of Education might start again as on a tabular rasa?

Sir P. MAGNUS

Will the right hon. Gentleman postpone any final decision on this subject until he has received a memorial which I understand is in preparation?

The PRIME MINISTER

Yes, I will consider that.
