HC Deb 31 May 1916 vol 82 cc2704-5
Mr. YEO

(by Private Notice) asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that in the absence of instruction to the contrary, many local military tribunals are still refusing exemption to business men, regardless of their domestic and financial responsibilities; whether this is resulting in widespread distress and ruin to men so situated; and whether, in view of the promises made in this House, he will immediately issue a Regulation on the subject without incurring the delay which must arise if no action is taken, until he is able to issue the comprehensive revised set of Regulations and instructions which is in contemplation?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Hayes Fisher)

The revised Regulations will, I hope, be made to-morrow and will be issued immediately.

Mr. YEO

Will they be on sale to the public?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

As soon as possible.

Mr. MORRELL

Will a copy be sent to every Member of the House?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

I believe I can arrange that.

Sir R. ADKINS

May I ask whether, pending the issue of these Regulations, the tribunals would do well to postpone the decisions on these cases?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

That must be within their discretion, but it is a good piece of advice
