HC Deb 18 May 1916 vol 82 cc1635-6
31. Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the Minister of Munitions whether there are from 200 to 250 soldiers employed as bricklayers, carpenters, and masons on the shell factory in course of erection at White Lund; and, if so, will he state the rate these men are being paid at.

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MUNITIONS DEPARTMENT (Dr. Addison)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given to the hon. Member for North-East Manchester by the Financial Secretary to the War Office on 16th May, of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. WILSON

Is there a shortage of civil labour in this particular locality?

Dr. ADDISON

I cannot speak as to this particular locality without notice, but there is a great shortage of civil labour of this kind.
