asked the President of the Board of Education whether he can now state what recommendations have been made by him to the local education school authorities throughout the country for the purpose of marking Empire Day, 24th May, by appropriate lectures in all schools and the observance of the day as a half-holiday for the scholars?

The Board of Education have communicated to local education authorities and governing bodies of State-aided schools a copy of the question asked by the hon. Member for Enfield on 11th May and of the answer thereto. The Board have no reason to believe that any further action on their part is required.

Have the Board recommended the adoption of this, or have they in any way signified their approval of it?

Mr. LEWIS

The Board have no authority to issue instructions.

If the Board have no authority, can they recommend, or have they recommended, this?
