HC Deb 09 May 1916 vol 82 c450
45. Mr. ASHLEY

asked the Prime Minister since when the establishment of the eighty-three divisions of the British Army has been raised from 18,400 to 25,000 in each division?

The PRIME MINISTER

The war establishment of a division is, as nearly as possible, 20,000 all ranks. This establishment does not include the line of communication units necessary for the maintenance of each division. The figure 25,000 which I gave was not intended to be more than a very rough estimate and is probably somewhat in excess of the real figure, even if the lines of communication units be added.
