HC Deb 03 May 1916 vol 82 c24
31. Mr. RENDALL

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he proposes to introduce any Bill to secure the proposed reduction in the production of beer; and whether he will, in the Clauses defining what the reduction is to be and over what period it is to be computed, so arrange that if a brewer produces less than the agreed amount of beer in any one quarter he may be allowed to increase his production above the agreed amount in the succeeding quarter, provided that for a complete year his production does not exceed the agreed reduced amount?

Sir STEPHEN COLLINS

Does not the hon. Gentleman think the words of the latter part of the question are suggestive that there is some danger in becoming too abstemious?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Pretyman)

A Bill for this purpose has been introduced, and will shortly be submitted for Second Reading. The Bill will include provisions on the lines of the hon. Gentleman's suggestion.
