HC Deb 16 March 1916 vol 80 c2238
109. Mr. YEO

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether civil servants joining the Army, except as officers, receive full pay less Army allowance; and, if so, whether in view of the fact that the wives of civil servants called up will be in a much better financial position than the wives of married men in other fields of employment, who will receive nothing but the Army allowance, and in view of the fact also that the Government has expressed its intention to economise in every Department, he will take steps to place civil servants on the same footing as ordinary civilians?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Montagu)

No, Sir; I could not suggest now an alteration in the terms which have been so long understood and agreed.
