HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 c1897
93. Mr. WATT

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the collector of taxes at Greenock and his various sub-collectors have sent out final notices for payment of property taxes within seven days on a penalty of costs; can he say whether this is the earliest threat of costs in the United Kingdom; and, if so, whether his Department countenances by advancement this kind of action or whether the Department tries to bring about equality of treatment for all citizens throughout the country by threatening costs at the same time to all?

Mr. MONTAGU

I am informed that final notices have been in process of issue since the latter part of February in all parts of the country.
