HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 cc1856-7
4. Mr. GINNELL

asked whether it was with the approval of His Majesty's Government that its representatives in Egypt by use of their offices and undue influence amounting to compulsion, with known consequences of refusal, collected £115,000 for an "Our Day" fund, as well as Red Cross and other funds nominally voluntary; and, if not, what action will be taken with reference to the money so obtained?

Sir E. GREY

The allegation implied by the first part of the hon. Member's question is baseless, and I regret it should be made, as the tendency of such statements would be to detract from the credit and gratitude which is due to the Egyptian Government and people in the matter.
